Electronics technician in electrical engineering/cryogenics

MICROSOFT QUANTUM COPENHAGEN and the Center for Quantum Devices at the University of Copenhagen are looking for a Research Technician with a background in ELECTRONICS. The successful candidate will be a part of a team that designs and maintains electronics and cryogenic instruments in an advanced research facility for experimental quantum computing. The deadline for applications is 23 October 2019.

The successful candidate will perform the following tasks:

  • Assemble various electronic devices for use with quantum computing experiments.
  • PCB design
  • Repair electronics
  • Help students with all kind of electronics related issues

The candidate may also participate in:

  • Microwave/analog electronics design for cryogenics
  • Software development in Python

We expect that the successful candidate:

  • Has at least finished education at the technician level (e.g.  Electronics Technician). Candidates with a bachelors degree in Electronics/Electrical Engineering are also encouraged to apply.
  • Has a hands-on experience in assembling electronics.
  • Is willing to learn how to handle cryogenic equipment (dilution refrigerators)
  • Self-motivating and good collaborative skills
  • Has strong organizational skills to manage several multi-disciplinary projects at the same time.

Microsoft Quantum is a large collaborative project between Microsoft and top universities in the USA, Denmark, Netherlands and Australia. The main goal of the project is to build a topological quantum computer. You can read more about it at

The Center for Quantum Devices at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen ( comprises a large group of ambitious experimentalists, theorists, engineers and technicians exploring coherent quantum effects in advanced solid-state electronic devices.

The successful candidate will be hired on permanent basis at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen.

Terms of appointment and payment

The position is from 1. November 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement between the Danish Government and the appropriate professional association.  In addition to the basic salary a monthly contribution to a pension fund is added (17.1% of the salary). A supplement can be negotiated, depending on experience and qualifications.
