Senior Scientist within in vitro assay development and screening

Department of Screening and Bioassay Technology has an opening for a talented and motivated Senior Scientist with a strong background within molecular and cellular biology methodologies and with a passion for building cell-based in vitro assays for drug discovery.

About the department

Screening and Bioassay Technology is part of Global Research Technologies at Novo Nordisk and is located in Maaloev in the Greater Copenhagen area of Denmark. We develop and use a diverse list of in vitro assays in the early discovery phase of our research projects to support identification of biologic drug candidates with desired functionality and reduced immunogenicity risk. You will join a department consisting of 10 dedicated scientists and 4 technicians highly skilled in design and execution of a variety of medium and high through-put in vitro screening assays with relevant biological read-out. We work in a state-of-the art R&D facility and in a flexible, informal and highly collaborative setting.

The position

The research and discovery work within Global Research is organized in multidisciplinary cross-functional project teams, and you will represent the department in several projects as an expert within tailor-made in vitro assay technologies. You will develop cell-based target engagement assays for biomarker analyses as well as be responsible for designing, developing and conducting advanced and robust assays enabling the selection of drug candidates with pre-defined functional properties. Moreover, you will contribute to maturing and advancing scientific ideas into projects within the different therapeutic areas of Novo Nordisk.

In your daily work, you will collaborate closely with project teams, department scientists and laboratory technicians. The working environment in Global Research is dynamic and innovative. You will interact with colleagues from research sites in USA and China, and as a consequence, this position also offers an excellent opportunity to establish a strong scientific network.

Qualifications

You hold a PhD in biological sciences with additional a few years of postdoctoral training. You have substantial expertise within molecular biology methodologies, including gene editing, to design and develop cell-based assays using immortalized cell lines. Utilizing your strong background in cell biology you are able to conduct cellular in vitro assays comprising e.g. reporter gene assays and molecular pharmacology assays detecting signal transduction, as well as assays measuring phenotypic changes such as migration, proliferation and differentiation.

Know-how and experience with flow cytometry and high through-put imaging will be considered an advantage for this position. Likewise, experience with automated or semi-automated instrumentation to secure efficient screening processes is a plus. Research experience from the pharmaceutical industry with preclinical development of biologics, including a track record of engaging with cross-disciplinary scientists to evaluate targets for new drug discovery projects is valuable for this position. Finally, you demonstrate a keen interest in working hands-on in a laboratory setting in the daily work.

As a person you are proactive, engaged and have a positive attitude to new ideas and people. You are a self-motivated team-player with strong communication skills as you will be responsible for appropriate reporting and communication of scientific results.

Working at Novo Nordisk

At Novo Nordisk, your skills and dedication help us change lives for the better. In exchange, we offer you an opportunity to work with extraordinary talent and benefit from a range of possibilities for professional and personal development.
