Vice President of Quality, Sourcing & Logistic in Blue Ocean Robotics.

Blue Ocean Robotics – a Robot Venture Factory in Odense, Denmark – develops, produces and sells professional service robots primarily in healthcare, hospitality, construction and agriculture. The portfolio of robots includes such brands as GoBe Robots, a mobile telepresence robot for communication, social inclusion and CO2 reductions; UVD Robots, a mobile robot for disinfection; PTR Robots, a mobile robot for safe patient handling and rehabilitation; as well as others.

Blue Ocean Robotics develops the robots from problem, idea and design to development, commercialization, and all the way to exit. Each robot is moved into its own subsidiary-venture company, making Blue Ocean Robotics the world’s first Robot Venture Factory. Blue Ocean Robotics supplies all our venture companies, who are selling the service robots, with high quality robots on-time in a volume that is scaling dramatically. Among other things, Blue Ocean Robotics has won one of the robot industry’s most prestigious international awards, the IERA Award 2019.

Your role

  • As Vice President of Quality, Sourcing and Logistics you will be responsible for all supplies to and from Blue Ocean Robotics as well as quality assurance across the full procurement and distribution process. The position reports to the COO of Blue Ocean Robotics.
  • As Vice President of Quality, Sourcing and Logistics you will have the role and the mandate to govern that all products and spare part supplies from Blue Ocean Robotics to the Spin-Out Ventures, their Distributors and Customers are 100 % fulfilling all agreed requirements and are delivered on time.
  • You will also be accountable for the inflow of parts and sub supplies to the manufacturing activities in Blue Ocean Robotics.
  • You will drive definition and certification of the processes from suppliers outgoing quality and cost, over in-bound quality control and logistics, assembly, SW download, calibration and testing, packing and transportation.
  • You will be "a playing coach" with the team, and feel very comfortable with having hands on.
  • As such you will have a huge impact on Blue Ocean Robotics and our Spin-Out ventures performance in the market and perception among customers.

Your background and history

  • You are already Vice President or similar for Quality, but you seek more influence on how the perceived high quality among customers are achieved - you know how to determine good and bad quality, but are perhaps frustrated that your colleagues who perform the operations that you are quality controlling, are not doing things in the optimal and capable way.
  • You have several years of experience within Quality Assurance and Quality Control (not HSE) within an industry developing and manufacturing software operated mechatronic equipments, industrial-, food or health care equipment or B2B apparatus in medium to large volumes.
  • You have been heading up implementation of Quality Management Systems and certifications such as ISO.
  • You have been engaged in ensuring quality deliveries from suppliers of SW operated mechatronics or electromechanic customized products, parts and components.
  • You are so experienced in methodologies and tools for quality assurance like Lean Six Sigma, APQC, APQP, PPAP, QMS, TCM, SPC.., that you could hold a speech for a forum of colleagues from other companies about your experiences, but you have also spend years on the shop floor in above industries doing quality control in person.
  • You are used to be the boss for and manage through leaders and you are known for your ability to empower them.
  • You make sure that your leaders form a powerful team, but also understand their role in the overall team covering the full value chain and life cycle.

Your personal profile

  • You are not exactly the person that fits in the "agile" and "change ready" category - but you are known for "factuality" and when you (finally) speak, people on the shop floor, in middle and upper management listen.
  • You are this "annoying person", who, when all your colleagues are euphoric about a new solution, are pointing out all the risks and the weak points about this idea and you don’t mind killing the "yes, and atmosphere" by bringing the "yes, but … " or even "no, because" mindset on the table.
  • People in the company may get a bit of a heart beat before they have to present the result of their effort for you, and you enjoy pointing out even a minor flaw or weakness on the "first page".
  • You are fact and data oriented and you always bring diagrams showing say the relationship between cost of poor quality, total cost of ownership and customer satisfaction.
  • You have a profound understanding of the concept of sourcing, manufacturing, distribution and quality assurance and you think and analyze throughout the full value chain and product life cycle before you chose the right solution, BUT your attention to details is what you are known for.
  • You would spend the night before a meeting with a preferred supplier to read through the contract and you would have the cost break down of his supply ready in front of you when the negotiations begin.
  • One can wake you up at night and in 3 seconds you can define your accountability and responsibility in the company and your KPIs.
  • You are used to working across the organization and across company borders and cultures, you have "gennemslagskraft", a good balance between "carrot and whip" and you are not afraid of "putting your food down".

What we offer

In Blue Ocean Robotics we develop and commercialize robots. The development of our robots is based on our RoBi-X model, where Blue Ocean Robotics has the management of robot technology and the design of robots in collaboration with strong partners in the market.

Blue Ocean Robotics is an efficient innovation factory that continues to conquer new robot territory with service robots for the healthcare, hospitality, construction and agriculture industries. Recognizing the strength of Blue Ocean Robotics’ business model and success, a powerhouse team of investors have injected DKK 80M (nearly $12M USD) into the company in 2019 .With a doubling of the company value in just one year, Blue Ocean Robotics is now worth 800 million DKK (nearly $120M USD).

Unlike most other companies in the Odense robot hub, Blue Ocean Robotics focuses on more than one product, with a range of service robot products for widely varying industries such as healthcare, hospitality, construction and agriculture. The Blue Ocean Robotics "robot venture factory" concept is that new robot concepts are developed in the parent company and then placed into subsidiaries, which in time are sold.

We are fast-paced, dynamic and have a flexible organization. We have monthly social events, Warrant Program for all full time employees, lunch arrangements, spouse network, Blue Ocean Robotics Academy, bicycle arrangements, language school, health insurance and of course PC and mobile phone are available. We also offer an Outplacement program for our international spouses so we support spouses in finding and developing a career in Denmark.

We respect each other and our differences. We take pride in integrating international colleagues in cooperation with Odense Robotics and International Community Odense.
